Government and Private Sector Must Work Together for National Prosperity: PM Oli

Kathmandu, March 10, 2025 (Chaitra 28, 2081 BS) – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized that the government and the private sector must work hand-in-hand to achieve the country’s economic development and prosperity.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 59th Annual General Meeting and Industry Day 2081 organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Prime Minister Oli stated that the government values the input of the private sector and has been implementing policy reforms accordingly to create an investment-friendly environment.

“The government is fully committed to working in partnership with the private sector. Many of the recent policy reforms have been made based on the suggestions of the business community. Development is a collective effort, and we are setting an example of cooperation,” said Prime Minister Oli.

He further added that the current government has prioritized policy stability and legal reforms to improve transparency, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and build investor confidence among both domestic and foreign investors.

PM Oli also assured that protests are not necessary to provide constructive suggestions to the government, as all three levels of government are committed to delivering services in a smooth and accessible manner.

Praising the FNCCI’s initiative in establishing Nepal Development Public Limited (NDPL) to mobilize resources for infrastructure and major national projects, he called it a commendable step towards economic self-reliance, export promotion, import substitution, and national pride.

Highlighting the pivotal role of FNCCI, he stated that it has not only contributed to business promotion but has actively supported national development and prosperity alongside the government.

Foreign Minister Rana Stresses Competitive Advantage and Export Growth

Also speaking at the event, Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba stated that the government is fully committed to the country’s overall economic development. She emphasized the importance of industrial growth for national progress and called for focused efforts on increasing the production, productivity, and export of goods and services where Nepal has a comparative advantage and competitive capacity.

She urged for the optimal use of local resources through government-private sector collaboration to accelerate the pace of development.

Industry Minister Highlights Priority for Industrial Growth

Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Damodar Bhandari also addressed the event, stating that the development of the industrial sector remains a top priority for the government. Recognizing FNCCI as a key partner, he underlined the necessity of strong government-private sector cooperation to achieve national development goals.

FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal said that the private sector must lead the nation’s journey toward economic prosperity. He emphasized that for the government’s vision of prosperity to be realized, the private sector must be allowed to operate freely and efficiently.

President Dhakal stressed the importance of a shared political vision for economic growth and highlighted recent policy reforms as positive indicators. He urged the government to make the current year’s policies and budget a turning point for economic reform.
